House in Henaji

It is the weekend house built in northern area of Okinawa Prefecture.
Because of warm climate and its peculiar history of a detached island, in Okinawa, there is a peculiar atmosphere and time sensation that differ from them of Japanese mainland.

I designed this house avoiding unnecessary form operating in architectural design.
I pursued the place filled with the essence of the atmosphere and the pace of the life inherited in Okinawa.

Rooms are divided only by inserting in wooden sliding doors into the framework of pillars and beams. Big one room space is realized by not making a ceiling in each room.
Deep eave is intercepting strong sunlight, at the same time it protect the house from the strong rainstorm. Natural wind goes in and out from the sliding door prepared on all sides of the house. This house's plan follows traditional okinawa-style house's plan.
The cement roofing-tile is used for many wooden residences in Okinawa. In this village, there are many houses with the cement roofing-tiles. It has peculiar textures by aging, and forms beautiful scene original to this area.
